How do I mention someone in chat?

Type **@** in the message box, start typing the person’s name, and pick them from the list. They get a “mentioned you” notification.

Steps

1. Open the direct message, group chat or channel.
2. In the message box, type **@**. A list of people appears.
3. Keep typing to narrow the list, then click the person.
4. Finish your message and press Enter to send.

Good to know

• Mentioned people get a notification titled “[Your name] mentioned you” instead of the usual “New message” one.
• Only people who are already in the conversation get notified. Mentioning someone who isn’t in the channel or chat doesn’t notify them or add them to it.
• Press Esc to close the list without picking anyone.
• Mention notifications follow the Chat Messages notification setting. If someone turned that off, they won’t be notified when mentioned.
