How do I mark one task as blocking another?
Open the task and go to the Related tab. Click Add Blocker to choose a task that must be finished first, or Blocks to choose a task that is waiting on this one.
Steps
- Open the task and click the Related tab.
- Click Add Blocker (this task can’t be completed until the other task is), or Blocks (the other task can’t be completed until this one is).
- Type part of the other task’s title or ID in Search tasks by title or ID….
- Click the task in the results.
- To remove a link, hover over it in the list and click the X.
Good to know
- The Related tab has three sections: Blocking This Task, Sub-tasks (Auto-blocking) and Blocked By This Task.
- A task can’t be marked Completed while any task blocking it is still open. This applies on the task page, the List View, the Board and bulk updates.
- Sub-tasks block their parent automatically. You don’t need to add them as blockers.
- You can only link tasks you have access to, and a task can’t block itself.
